Joanna joined Wallmans Lawyers in 2011 as a practitioner in the firm's leading Local Government practice.
Joanna has particular expertise in providing advice on a diverse range of issues relevant to council operations, legal compliance and procedures. Joanna advises on all planning and environment issues under the Development Act 1993 and other relevant legislation, and represents councils in enforcement proceedings, prosecutions and appeals. Her experience in regards to environmental matters extends to waste, landfill, native vegetation protection, pollution liability and water resources.
Additionally Joanna advises on governance and administrative law issues such as policy review, code of conduct issues, statutory interpretation, delegations, freedom of information and external and internal reviews. She also provides advice in regards to regulatory and compliance functions, including summary criminal matters, expiations, evidentiary issues and investigations, orders and by -laws and the powers and functions of authorised persons under various legislation.
Joanna's career development is extensive. Prior to becoming admitted as a lawyer in 2008, Joanna graduated as an engineer with a degree in Civil and Environment Engineering. She spent time working at the Department of Water, Land and Biodiversity Conservation and has a passion for ecological sustainability. After completing her Bachelor Degree with Honours in Law, Joanna was an Associate in the Supreme Court of South Australia. Most recently and prior to joining Wallmans, Joanna was an Associate in a specialised commercial litigation firm.
